ANALYSIS 07 16 2022The Chilean Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the death of three Venezuelans - two of them women - inside a container was caused by "inhalation of carbon monoxide."The victims were found on Friday, July 15, by workers from the Coronel sector, in the Bío Bío region in the south of the country. The women were 19 and 21 years old, while the man was in his 40s, and their identities remain unknown. The structure was located in an area that functioned as a collection point for companies in the area, and lately it was used as a parking lot for buses and trucks.According to the version provided by the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI), the victims used the space as a home and had a bed, as well as a space to eat.Apparently, they left a stove on inside in order to warm up due to the low temperatures experienced in the area and died asphyxiated, reported the portal bibiochile.cl.For her part, Carla Torres, director of Community Development of Coronel, reported that they were not informed about the situation of the Venezuelans prior to the tragic outcome or else they would have been provided accommodation in a municipal shelter.Gonzalo Burgos, the prosecutor in charge of the case, added that the Legal Medical Service is working on the definitive identification of the victims because the deceased did not have their documents in order. He ruled out the intervention of third parties in the death.More than seven million people have emigrated from Venezuela in recent years, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and more than half a million are in Chile, some irregular.A study by the R4V organization revealed that up to 600 Venezuelans enter Chile clandestinely every day from Bolivia and Peru, a figure that has skyrocketed in the last two years. On July 12, a Venezuelan woman identified as Raquel Pacheco Arias, 41, was found dead at the border crossing between Chile and Bolivia. The Chilean military patrolmen reported that the woman was alone and with a small wallet, where her identification was.According to the report of the Bolivian newspaper El Deber, the victim's body was found in a Chilean area known as Cerrito Prieto. It was a few meters from the strip that divides the border point between Chile and Bolivia.Content tagged in Bío Bío / Cononel / Prosecutor's Office of Chile / inhalation of carbon monoxide / Venezuelan migrantsSorry, you must be logged in to post a comment. What are you waiting to join?In depth topics.Fearless journalism.List managed by MailChimpDon't you believe what they say?We check them...
